Welcome! Bienvenidos!

Hola chicos! Welcome to research element to the project 'In the Larval Stage: Axolotls of Xochimilco'.

I'm Anna Garrett, an artist from the UK living in CDMX.

This project is a collaboration with Creature Conserve - a charity bringing artists and animal conservationists together with the aim of creating dialogue, story-telling and raising awareness towards species on the edge of extinction, in the hope of species survival.

My work has recently focussed around the plight of the now rare amphibian - the Mexican Axolotl salamander. There is now said to be only roughly 34 per square km in the wild. There are many complex socio-ecological reasons for its decline, which I will share more about as the blog progresses.

The project is also concentrating on drawing as a methodology for a quiet ecological activism. I will be launching some new drawing in nature workshops this week to observe and learn what we can about this as an idea of 'being with', and its potential creating connections, conversation and embracing the space-time entanglement with the more-than-human.

Thank you for visiting, and I hope you can come away with something from this page.

Best wishes,

Anna
