Research Trip: Axolotls at CMDX Aquarium - 10/06/21

In many ways these Axolotls had a good life. They don't need to worry about Tilapia and Carp eating them or their babies, they don't need to worry about finding food, or unclean water. But do they have a good life?

Axolotls don't have eyelids, and this tank was fully lit with electric spotlights, with really no shelter to rest their eyes in a dark space. They could at least put up a sign saying no flash photography. They are sensitive beings and reacted to loud noises as well.

You can tell which Axolotls seem to be more inbred than others. The pink variety undoubtedly seemed to have more problems, with one constantly seeming to be distressed and bumping into the walls.

I spent over an hour with the Axolotls. Most people spent 1-2 minutes.

I wish there was more information about their conservation and efforts.
